Being an Executive Assistant she made me realize that when a hotel or caterer plays fast and loose with their services and tries to pump in fees that were not originally discussed; it is me who has the power to say “no” and then blackball them within my circles. I was on The Professional Networker Website several weeks ago, logged on events in Aurora, IL set my schedule and this week went to the after-hours networking meeting. I met the Director of the Chamber and I will be joining the Aurora, Chamber. I also met with several other business owners that will be great to network with for business and personal. We often miss understand the power of true networking, if we have a give verse get attitude great opportunities can open up. If we have the mindset that beyond business networking we take time to build a genuine relationship to seek first to understand, before we are understood, we will learn much about others. Case in point, after spending time learning about each others business and what a referral would be we started chatting about other topics, discovered we have two common friends and found out the their daughters had an interest in going to the youth group at the same church we attend. I believe when we take time to learn about others, and not just what I can get from networking, we will see new opportunities and how partner alliances can grow. I knew about the Aurora, Chamber but because I saw it on the The Professional Networker Website, it sparked the motivation to set, plan and attend.
